Marisa Dorling, Co-Founder
Marisa is a medical student at the University of British Columbia. She realized the importance of accessible CPR training after saving her grandmother from choking on a tea sandwich. Previously, she has worked as a lifeguard, nanny and coach for special needs youth. She is a registered BLS Instructor with the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Morgan Towriss, Co-Founder
Morgan is a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia studying health science. She is a proud Tsm’syen woman from Lax Kw’alaams who has first-hand experience of the impacts of health care inequity in aboriginal communities. Morgan is a passionate advocate for indigenous rights and aims to help address indigenous healthcare inequity by increasing the capacity for indigenous individuals to pursue health care careers. Morgan has a First Responder License and a BLS Instructor certification with the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Rebekah Towriss, Instructor + Public Relations
Rebekah is a nursing student at Douglas College interested in travel nursing in rural + indigenous communities. She also works as a 911-operator and saw first hand the need for increased emergency response capacity in remote communities. As an indigenous woman, Rebekah is passionate about promoting equal opportunities for indigenous youth to pursue health care training. She is very excited to be one of the instructors of the CPR workshops.
Ash Sehrawat, Project Development Associate
Ash is a mechanical engineering graduate from UBC and currently working as a design engineer. As a person living with a chronic illness, he knows the importance of access to quality healthcare. Growing up in India, Ash witnessed the effects of socioeconomic discrimination in healthcare and hopes to work towards a world where there is universal care for all. For the cyPRESS team, he works for continuous development and implementation of growth strategies and secure ongoing funding for the project to enable us to reach more indigenous youth.
Dr. Videsh Kapoor, Faculty Advisor
Dr. Videsh Kapoor is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Family Practice and family physician practicing in Vancouver, Canada and completed all her medical training at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. She is involved in numerous Faculty of Medicine curriculum development and teaching activities, most notably in establishing Global Health education programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. She is the Director of the Department of Family Practice Enhanced Skills Program in Global Health and the Global Health Theme Leader in the Medical Undergraduate Program at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She was a recipient of the 2014 UBC Alumni Global Citizenship Award. In 2018, she was awarded the Silver Anniversary Achievement Award by her UBC medical school classmates for her contributions to the medical undergraduate and postgraduate programs including teaching, leadership and advocacy for global health education, primary care and healthcare equity of diverse populations locally and internationally.
